HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOSEPH
The story goes that Joseph Smith and his family ran a small shop in their community. In this shop, they sold foods such as cakes, hardboiled eggs, molasses cookies, pies, and rootbeer. Today is Joseph Smith’s Birthday and we decided to acknowledge it. To celebrate his life we decided to make and share pies, our testimony, and love to others of this prophet. This has become not only a yearly tradition for us but has also reached my grandchildren’s home as a new tradition for them too.
Joseph F. Smith encouraged the saints to remember the prophet’s birthday.
“I should like to see introduced among the Latter-day Saints…the practice of celebrating or commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith. . . . in my judgment the next birthday celebration to that of our Lord and Savior ‘Jesus Christ should be that of Joseph Smith.”… “On this day, we celebrate the birth of the man who “has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. . . . He lived great, and he died great in the eyes of God and his people”!
We are finishing the night off with our little pies, and the viewing of the movie “Unlocking the Mystery of the Two Prophets.”
Happy Birthday, Joseph!
