PREPARING THE HEARTS OF OUR FAMILY
For Thanksgiving, I like to prepare my family’s hearts for the season — using movies and media to help turn my family towards the covenant ‘fathers and mothers’ is powerful. We have been learning more about the significance of this day and that it can be more than just our traditional turkey and mashed potatoes, followed by a game of football, playing cards, or building gingerbread houses as it had been for some time in my family.
Since movies play such an important role in reaching the heart, as feelings and emotions can be reached quicker than a book or a passed-down story, I decided to create a list of movies for my family to immerse in each season. I want them to come face to face with those men, women, and children who sacrificed everything for us.
The message of Thanksgiving is that Israel not only came to colonize, but they were returning to America to reestablish the covenant again on the land. This holiday is a message of that homecoming; a family being reunited after over a thousand years of separation (Nephites and Lamanites)!
