A TIME TO DANCE

As I have been learning more about who I am and my Israelite lineage—it has brought on a few personal changes in my life.

One area I immediately felt drawn to learn more about was how my ancestors danced and used dance for everything. The scriptures talk about how the people would dance to rejoice, during times of hospitality and greeting one another, or at their festivals and feasts. They danced on their way to Zion, when they wanted to praise God, and even danced after a battle was won— as it was an expression of gratitude and testimony to other Nations that they had been delivered by the God of Israel.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven… a time to mourn, and a time to dance. (Ecclesiastes 3:1,4)

I, too, love to dance—especially the Old English dances with beautiful music and eloquent steps. As an ambassador for Jesus Christ, the way we speak, dress, act, live and even dance are an open display to the world of what we really believe. The Israelites were drawn to things of beauty and refinement—it was part of who they were as God’s people. It is also a part of who I am. So, even though I may not be fighting battles or dancing to Zion, I, however, am trying to show God that I share the same love of worship in dancing as my ancestors and that I, too, can give praise to the Lord for my victories when he has delivered me.

Here are some teachings by the prophets on dancing and music.

Here is an inspired website to show how other families are applying the teachings on the topic of dancing in their own homes and lives.
