TRYING THE VIRTUE OF THE WORD OF GOD

As I contemplate the Savior, I couldn’t help but ponder on my testimony of Jesus Christ and where it took root – how have I been won over to his Gospel? I feel that I need to write and testify of the Book of Mormon because that was the instrument that brought my soul unto Christ.  I love the Book of Mormon. The power and influence that this great book, and the remarkable men and women tucked inside its pages, has had upon my life and testimony of the Savior, is immeasurable – there truly are no adequate words, but I’m going to do my best to share!  Elder Mark…

    REWARDS

One of my favorite things about having all my children live so close to me is the ability to build some really good traditions. For the last 4 years, we have gathered every month from spring to fall to work at each other’s houses on projects that need a team. You can read our story on our blog about why we started that tradition, which has blessed us dearly. Monthly we also gather for a large meal as we love using the table to connect, and so forth. This year, we decided to start a ‘another’ new tradition! It is so fun to be a mother and grandmother and to…

    I AM A NEPHITE!

One of my favorite documentaries I have watched is called Nephites in Europe. It introduces us to a royal family in Northern Europe descending from a prince by the name of Nefi or Nephi. It also discusses how another Northern European tribe was known by a name that likely means the “people of Nephi.” From this documentary, I learned how the Nephites had traveled to Europe, beginning 60 years before Jesus Christ appeared to them! In the scriptures, it says “Lehi was given the promise that his seed would be numbered among the nations, the kindreds, the tongues, and the people throughout the earth.” Nephi also teaches us” “And now…

    ONE VERSE AT A TIME

I have always been drawn to different methods of education that strengthen family bonds. Recently as I have studied more in depth the patriarchal order—a son following his righteous father—I could not help but love this way of reading scriptures together as a family … one verse at a time. Isn’t it natural for children to look up to their father as an example—seeking his approval and acceptance? Research has found that the attention of every child—no matter the age—is more focused when a father reads every other verse in the Scriptures, and children try to emulate his reading. They also will wait for their turn in hopes that a…

THE TRANSFORMATION THAT COMES FROM SCRIPTURES

For me, there is no question that the Book of Mormon has played a central role in my conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have been transformed by those words when applied, many times. I am not very intelligent in drawing parallels, searching out patterns, or understanding the doctrine on a scholarly level. But I do know it is real, and there is power in it when I have taken the simple teachings and used them to govern with. I can not deny it. President Benson said: “There is a power in the Book of Mormon which will begin to flow into your lives the minute you begin…

USE THE BOOK OF MORMON—AND BREAK THE SHACKELS! I DID, SO CAN YOU!

I wish I could say that I had lived a life where tears and heartache were not two of my closest companions. I wish I could say that I had never been the one who had to see and experience a darker side. The pains of rape left me hollow; only to escape and numb my existence with drugs, alcohol, an eating disorder, and a suicide attempt. However the darkness and gloom later, lifted when a baby girl was placed in my arms, and motherhood all too soon began, bringing happiness to an all-forgotten experience. So, I thought. As the months turned into years—demons of “unworthiness” and “you will never…
