    TELL YOUR STORY!

When I was much younger, the days of journal writing or keeping notes were very sparse, I hardly did any. I always loved the idea of having a notebook or a journal— filling it with notes and random thoughts etc.. But actually, writing anything of importance down? Nope, I was too stubborn for my own sake. Why would I, or anyone want to read or hear this? What’s the use of it? What good will this be for anyone? These were all the thoughts I kept telling myself, however, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that my perspective on it changed. Wilford Woodruff taught a principle that can…

    THE FAMILY CATECHISM

Are you like us where you failed to capture the hearts of some of your children? For us we failed to pass down vision, convictions, and wisdom to our little growing family. Looking back to the days when we were young parents it seemed the battle between pagan culture and the family culture I wanted to create but didnt know how to, paganism often won. Because of this many times I simply gave up. After losing many battles, I believe to win the attacks on the family, we need to make strategic choices that prepare an environment of honor, faithfulness to Christ, and generationally-minded decision-making. One method our family has…

FAITHFUL FOOTSTEPS —CELEBRATING A SACRED HERITAGE

This year for Thanksgiving we remembered the faithful footsteps of not only the Pilgrims and Puritans but all those of this sacred lineage we come from such as the Reformers, Founding Fathers, and Joseph Smith that understood that there was a battle for freedom. These ancestors knew they had a duty to acknowledge and resist false doctrine or they would live like slaves under a tyrant who took the place of God.  During the Pilgrims’ time, King James believed he had divine authority to rule any way he wanted. The King and his followers wanted the corrupt kind of freedom that is gained by stepping away from God’s requirements. This…

    WRAPPED, PACKED, AND UNPACKED

For 27 years I have housed what we all call “grandma’s china.”  These old plates, platters, and teacups have been wrapped, packed, and unpacked now 12 different times through our different moves. For all these years they have just sat collecting dust. It is kind of silly how we save things for the “company”, but then we don’t actually use them when the company comes because it’s just easier to use paper plates. That’s like buying an outfit and not wearing it because it may wear out someday. I was also afraid they would break from one of my children, so high on the shelf, they sat. DISCOVERING OUR ROOTS The…

ARE YOU WILLING TO LAY DOWN YOUR LIFE FOR THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH: CONSPIRACY OF NAUVOO IN 1844

Stories of those who stood up for truth have always intrigued me. The faithful acts of those that come before us are not always passed down from generation to generation. This is a story of my 4th great-grandfather who was willing to lay down his life for the Prophet Joseph Smith as a young boy and the sacrifices he made in helping to build the Kingdom of God!  DENNISON LOTT HARRIS Compiled from many different family records      Those who have read the life of Joseph Smith the Prophet must be familiar with the fact that from his earliest boyhood he was ever the object of bitter persecution. Notwithstanding the numerous…

    ARE WE REDNECKS TOO?

I come from the Scottish Clan of the Stewarts. Recently, in digging through family history boxes, I came across a little book all about this family name. I also learned the Stewart name was the Royal Bloodline— but the House was split. There was the ruling group and the ones who broke away to defend religious freedoms, and Jesus Christ, with their lives known as the Scottish Covenanters. They were persecuted and hunted down. To distinguish themselves from the others, they wore a red scarf, which is where “rednecks” come from, and their history was wiped clean. For the past few years my family has been commemorating these covenanters, and…
