    I AM A NEPHITE!

One of my favorite documentaries I have watched is called Nephites in Europe. It introduces us to a royal family in Northern Europe descending from a prince by the name of Nefi or Nephi. It also discusses how another Northern European tribe was known by a name that likely means the “people of Nephi.” From this documentary, I learned how the Nephites had traveled to Europe, beginning 60 years before Jesus Christ appeared to them! In the scriptures, it says “Lehi was given the promise that his seed would be numbered among the nations, the kindreds, the tongues, and the people throughout the earth.” Nephi also teaches us” “And now…

    ONE VERSE AT A TIME

I have always been drawn to different methods of education that strengthen family bonds. Recently as I have studied more in depth the patriarchal order—a son following his righteous father—I could not help but love this way of reading scriptures together as a family … one verse at a time. Isn’t it natural for children to look up to their father as an example—seeking his approval and acceptance? Research has found that the attention of every child—no matter the age—is more focused when a father reads every other verse in the Scriptures, and children try to emulate his reading. They also will wait for their turn in hopes that a…

    CHASING DEAD END CAUSES

Many of us will do anything to protect our children from ungodly influences. Some of us will give up everything to safeguard our families physically and spiritually in hopes to infuse them with godly virtues. We give up our lives for their momentary happiness all the while thinking that we are saving our children eternally. However noble this may be, many times we are just—chasing ‘dead-end causes’ that breed only selfishness in the name of “love of learning” or a “mission-driven life”  as “mentors,” “statesmen,” and “restorers.” Sooner than later we are left to wonder why our families fell apart, why everyone went their “own ways,” and why our home…

HOW DO I PREPARE MY CHILDREN TO STAND AS A WITNESS OF JESUS CHRIST & CONSECRATE THEIR LIVES TO GOD?

Martin Luther once taught, “If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest expression every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace, if he flinches at that point.” People often ask me: “How do I train my children to stand for Christ?” And as Martin Luther said—“so that they will not flinch at the very point where…

    BIBLICAL YOUNG WOMEN (MOVIE)

Do you have daughters who are hesitant about following the traditions of the world? Are they wondering what to do with their single years? When raising my first daughter the only advice I could offer her were these “traditions” of the world—college and career Years ago I watched this documentary and as a mother in the midst of raising children and unsure of what I was doing this film impacted me—challenging my beliefs and priorities. Being involved in the education system I already knew our culture’s educational system was not the only way for a woman to be educated, but I did not have answers to what it looked like,…

WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION ARE YOU GIVING YOUR CHILD?

Have you ever wondered why so many parents receive different “inspired” answers in educating their children? Has it ever confused you why one group of parents are told to “send their children to school”, and another to “bring them home?” Are some right and some wrong? Does their worldview affect their answers? As a Christian parent and educator, I had been deeply confused by this and have wondered many times if I was receiving correct answers when it came to my children’s education because there seemed to be so much confusion, causing me to doubt what I was being led to. In the course of my home education experience with…
