USE THE BOOK OF MORMON—AND BREAK THE SHACKELS! I DID, SO CAN YOU!

I wish I could say that I had lived a life where tears and heartache were not two of my closest companions. I wish I could say that I had never been the one who had to see and experience a darker side. The pains of rape left me hollow; only to escape and numb my existence with drugs, alcohol, an eating disorder, and a suicide attempt. However the darkness and gloom later, lifted when a baby girl was placed in my arms, and motherhood all too soon began, bringing happiness to an all-forgotten experience. So, I thought.

As the months turned into years—demons of “unworthiness” and “you will never be clean” soon began to haunt me. For years I felt hopeless, as all I have ever wanted was to just be good, and do what’s right, but the torment would cloud my thinking— paralyzing any progress. The more I wanted holiness, the greater the devil’s came. I felt I had failed to be able to achieve something greater. For years I carried this, always feeling I didn’t fit in because of my past. Now, don’t get me wrong, repentance I had sought in my early days, but the depth nor understanding was not enough, therefore a door was cracked, leaving room for the toe of the devil to wedge himself in.

However, this all changed when I decided to use the Book of Mormon’s power to break the devil and his games once and for all. President Ezra Taft Benson spoke about this ‘power’ that comes instantly. I had experienced it before with parenting, and other perplexed situations, but this time I wanted to know if the words of Jesus Christ could really release ME from a sinful path of memories. Would they really be taken away in exchange for joy and happiness?

Yes, yes the power came, just as the scriptures read and I was left marveling like Enos to say “How [God] is it done?” Oh, what joy came immediately when rising from my wrestled prayer! Oh, what love filled me. How could saying a few words in faith take away the hell that day—never to return in the same torment? How, I do not know, but it did! Now, all that’s left is a stupor of thought when I even try to return to thinking of the past. It is wiped out.

The Book of Mormon is real. It WILL heal you, it will break those shackles that bind you to the Evil One. You don’t have to stay in the buffeting any longer. The Book of Mormon teaches us all through her pages how we are to have a Remission of Sins and what it looks like to do it. It is not enough to read it—you must apply it! It is not enough to change your behavior—but change your nature. Our families are falling apart, and our children are abandoning the faith. We need to use this book for this healing, and from it, we are promised mighty “miracles,” “prophecies” and “healings” as Nephi taught. We need no experts, only the Book of Mormon and faith.

For me, it was the greatest healing ever—to be able to apply the Savior’s teachings directly to my life— seen through the example of Enos, and Alma, and have his promise fulfilled, not only in their life but now mine. It’s simple, it really is. You too, can have that power flow directly into your life, and have your own miracle.

How have you used the book to heal yourself? Please share!
