ARE WE REDNECKS TOO?

I come from the Scottish Clan of the Stewarts. Recently, in digging through family history boxes, I came across a little book all about this family name. I also learned the Stewart name was the Royal Bloodline— but the House was split. There was the ruling group and the ones who broke away to defend religious freedoms, and Jesus Christ, with their lives known as the Scottish Covenanters. They were persecuted and hunted down. To distinguish themselves from the others, they wore a red scarf, which is where “rednecks” come from, and their history was wiped clean.

For the past few years my family has been commemorating these covenanters, and the covenant they signed by gathering together for food, discussion, and last year a sword fight! These covenanting families played a role as the great-grandparents of our Founding Fathers. Their influence brought forth the spirit of freedom with our own nation and covenant (Constitution). The two documents are similar almost word for word.

I have a family line that no one can push through. My grandmother and mother spent my whole childhood on the hunt to connect this family line past 1816 to the Scottish Royal blood… But what if instead…we were connected to the Covenanters? What if we were rednecks too???

Let the hunt begin..again!
