BUILD A CHRIST-CENTERED HOME FROM THE TEACHINGS OF OUR ‘FATHERS’

Have you ever thought that one of the key factors in building a Christ-centered home is to make your family ‘peculiar’ (a holy family/people), by raising your standards based on the teachings of inspired prophets? Looking at history, Israel’s failure to honor the teachings and example of its fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob brought on tribes (a family) separating and scattering. By us as Latter-day saints not adhering to every word of inspired prophets are our children leaving too? Have you lost some of your family?

One of my favorite sites to begin learning what the prophets have said on topics such as birth control, education, food, counseling, parenting, laughter, music, dance, Sabbath, lineage, affections, etc. is this: https://josephsmithfoundation.org/faqs/, I was personally shocked at how much I didn’t know or had forgotten from my childhood, as I was taught some of these as a child.

This is a wonderful compilation of the prophets’ teachings on different topics. Years ago as a family, we began reading and studying these together. So many of these are long-forgotten and buried, but if followed; a new family—a peculiar family—will arise from the ashes and something beautiful can be built.

Do not lose your children over not honoring those inspired teachings that were once given to you and me. Take the principles taught by men such as Brigham Young, Joseph Fielding Smith, or Ezra Taft Benson to name a few, and together as a family decide how you will follow what they taught about home and family, and then build your home.

What has been your favorite teaching you have found that strengthened your home, and what has been the fruit of it by following that teaching? I would love to know what others are doing!
