“SPRING WATER TASTES BEST”

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught “spring water tastes best from the mountain” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, 5:85-86)as he spoke about the future of the saints going to the Rocky Mountains in Utah. This has been a recent slogan in our home— as we applied this as our standard to our media, movies, amusements, literature, and so forth.  Who wants irrigation ditch water when you can drink from the purest fountain! As a result of this teaching, we have purged garbage bags full of items that were not the purest. Little did I know that this adopted slogan would also be applied to our health —quite literally.

ALLERGIC REACTION

Within a few months of moving to Manti, I had severe skin issues that were affecting my quality of life. From head-to-toe, my skin would swell up, dry out, and burn when it came into contact with water. Clothing felt like little pins poking the skin and it was just miserable.

The first thing we did was change our diet to whole foods dumping processed sugars and junk foods. Even though we were feeling new energy and great health elsewhere, the skin reaction did not cease.  I was desperate for a solution.

A good friend had reminded me of Joseph Smith’s teaching about spring water and I wondered if it could be a cure in this situation. It did not hurt to try, right?  If it was healing my home spiritually, could it heal my health, too? We purchased a few 5-gallon containers and immediately filled them up at a well with spring water coming straight down from the mountain on our friend’s farm. Within a week the severity of the skin issue cleared up. I even felt better in clarity of thought.

REASONS TO NOT DRNK TAP WATER

I learned that spring water from the mountain has needed minerals in it— as tap water is depleted of them. Minerals such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium can be found in pure waters. Tap water consists of unwanted chemicals that have been flushed into our systems with Chlorine. Besides chlorine, which I am assuming was the main problem in causing the allergic creation, there is also evidence of birth control substances, pharmaceutical drugs, disease-causing microbes, arsenic, shower pathogens, salmonella, estrogen, mold, rocket fuel, and toxic lead.

WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN

My children who live here too, have felt the difference in their own health and now stop to fill up at the “watering hole”. Who would have known that a simple phrase and teaching would have such an impact on our lives?  It makes me ask myself what other teachings can we apply as a family that can change our course in healing both spiritually and physically, and heals years of neglect is unknown to me—but I am on the hunt to take the words of the prophets more seriously in all areas of my life—even literally.
